BUILDING BRIDGES LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY; LEVERAGING THE ASIAN ECONOMY FOR MICHIGAN’S ECONOMIC GROWTH

 

 

weishen-launch 2Bloomfield Hills, MI: The BridgeConnect? Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, successfully launched its mission and shared its vision on Friday, May 15th joined by very special guest Mr. Huang Ping, Consul General of China, and an important group of global business executives and top political leaders. Mr. Huang Ping’s presence at this event is a testament to Wei Shen’s vision and desire to collaborate; Wei Shen is the founder of BridgeConnect. Mr. Huang Ping and Wei Shen’s message to the group - we need to strengthen the relationship between China and the United States, two of the most important world economic powers. Mr. Huang shares the same mission as the BridgeConnect Foundation, that is, to build collaborative, mutually beneficial relationships to benefit both China and the United States economically, educationally, and culturally.

 
The powerful partnership between China and the United States can impact the world economy unlike any other partnership as we movweishen-launch1e forward to stabilize and grow the world economy.  BridgeConnect understands this imperative, and seeks to pursue this mission by facilitating constructive and rewarding relationships locally and globally between individuals and institutions. BridgeConnect is an outwardly oriented, forward-thinking, non-profit organization dedicated to embracing and including diverse communities, far beyond the realm of ethnically homogeneous community organizations.
 
 The foundation was created by Wei Shen, the marketing manager for the General Motors Corp. Premium Channel, in order to build relationships between the United States and China and create new markets for products made in Michigan. Shen was born in China and has become a United States citizen.   “Our goal really is to create mutually beneficial relationships between the United States and China through exchanges in four modules:  culture, arts and music, education and economic development,” Shen said. “I regard tonight as the perfect melting pot.”
wei_shen_launch3Consul General Huang represents 9 states in the mid-western region of the United States including Michigan.  Between 2000 –2009, both Michigan and US exports to China increased 341% (source: US-China Business Council) indicating a tremendous economic opportunity for growth.  Michigan is also the home of great music traditions like Motown, and championship sports teams like the Detroit Red Wings and Pistons. Michigan also maintains a strong cultural community through the globally renowned Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Michigan Opera House, and one of the nation’s most significant art museums,  the Detroit Institute of Art. Michigan is home to several of the world’s leading educational institutions including the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and Detroit Country Day Preparatory School.
